I have been thinking a lot recently about journeys.
All sorts of journeys, but especially the most important journey of all – the journey of life from beginning to end. The booklet ‘Growing Deeper – a journey of discovery’ talks about the journey and leads us through 31 days when we can consider our own journey through life (Get a copy from Diane or me – for £3).
No-one knows when we are born how our journey will progress. Some people grow up and become famous sportsmen or women and others become successful in business or music. But most of us have ‘normal’ lives with many ups and downs and we never get to have our 15 minutes of fame. A few sadly never get to grow up at all.
As I consider my own journey, I can think back to many highlights and fond memories, from my first day at school (Yes – I enjoyed my first day at school) to marriage, children, and lots of happy times. I can also remember many sad times when events have been difficult.
But no matter what the journey holds from today onwards, there is one thing I am absolutely certain about. And that is simply that I do not journey alone. God’s Spirit is with all who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and that includes me! So as I continue my journey through life, I’m sure that at times the journey will have highlights and low spots. But ultimately it will end in glorious splendour, when God calls me home.
So for me (and I pray for you) I know the ending to my journey. I have made my choice and I have no regrets. I am in Christ and I am a new creation. The old things have passed away and all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Join us in a journey through Lent as we look afresh at the journey of life at our own pace and understanding, and hopefully grow deeper in our relationship with our God.
May God be with you on your travels.
