Rev Diane Matchett

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7

My life as an ordained minister only began in June 2005. Although my ordained life is relatively short comparing to other colleagues, my Christian life has been an adventure of many years. Being taught the Christian Faith as a very young child was very important and considered a high priority in our family, by my mother especially.

I have really good memories of growing up on a farm with 8 other brothers and sisters and we were never bored. Life was so busy and exciting, there was always something happening at our house. Hospitality was also very important in our upbringing. My father and mother were always welcoming other people to eat with us and even stay.

I am so grateful to the people who influenced my life and the experiences that I have had, even though some were challenging and difficult. Every moment of our lives can potentially lead us closer to Jesus especially when we remember that it is God who is in the driving seat.

Life is certainly very active as a new incumbent of this parish. It seems that the last few months have flown by and it is a real privilege to serve the people here. The jump from being a curate to a rector is a huge one and I can sense very strongly the prayers and support of those around me. I have already met so many people and week by week I am able to put more names to faces which is really important to me personally. I am excited about the future as I feel very much called to serve God here. I want to take this opportunity on behalf of Mark, my husband and myself, to wish all who read this a lovely Christmas and new year full of adventure.

With love and best wishes
Diane
